Ebbw Vale          CHRISTIAN CENTRE

OUR HISTORY

Formed in 1923 in a house (second row, 3rd house) in Newtown, Ebbw Vale, it soon moved in 1924 to an upper room in the market hall in Ebbw Vale, where it remained for 18 months. In 1926 they moved again to Pontygof Girls School.

The people saved to buy their own church and by 1934 they had enough, but the church executive wanted to borrow the money to build a church in Ystradgynlais, and it was granted. By 1935 a plot of ground was purchased at Pontygof and PENIEL APOSTOLIC CHURCH was built.

In 1967 a compulsory purchase order was placed on the building for an extension to be put on the school.
So in 1968 the Primitive Methodist Church, Libanus Road was purchased by the Apostolic church and renamed Bethel.

In 1994, the Libanus Road building became structurally unsound and the church temporarily moved to the St, Johns Ambulance Hall in Ebbw Vale.

Then, in 1995 the magistrates Court on the Civic Centre site in Ebbw Vale was bought by the church and became The Christian Centre, Ebbw Vale. It was opened in the October by the oldest member, Mr. Daniel Williams.

In 2006 the decision was made to bring together the three local Apostolic churches in the Blaenau Gwent area. Thus creating one main assembly from our churches in Bryn Mawr, Ebbw Vale and Rassau.
